The Andover Volunteer Fire Department provides the small, Eastern Connecticut town of Andover with Fire and EMS service. We are also members of the Tolland County Dive Team. Our territory includes one of the most dangerous roads in America; the 11 mile stretch of Route 6 from Bolton to Columbia, also known as Suicide 6. Don't become a Suicide 6 statistic. Please drive it with care.

Bring Your Dad to School Day - a fictional(?) story

Two Dads sitting next to each other, waiting to talk to the kids about their careers.

Dad2 - "So you're a firefighter? I wanted to do that when I was a kid. What do you make?"

Dad1 (notice who's Dad1) - "What do I make?"
I make holding your hand seem like the biggest thing in the world when I am cutting you out of your car.
I can make 5 minutes feel like a lifetime when I go into a burning house to save your family.
I make those annoying sirens sound like angels singing when you need them.
I make your wife's head turn when I walk by in uniform.
I make your children breathe after they have stopped.
I can make you survive a heart attack.
I make myself get out of bed at 3am to go risk my life for people I have never met, and have never asked for thanks.
I make a difference. What do you make?"

Hellooo... Where Are You?

It's pretty sad when the ambulance is called to go into neighborhoods with houses that cost over a half a million dollars and we can't find the caller easily because there's either no house number visible or the number that is there is some cheesy, one inch tall, non-reflective, Wal-Mart special. We are offering inexpensive, well-made reflective signs for sale.
The cost for the signs with brackets are $12.00 each. $10.00 without brackets. Drive by your Andover Volunteer Fire Department and you'll see a blue one for the house across the street and a green one for the fire house. You can't miss them. Click here for an order form or stop by the fire house any Wednesday evening. What a great present.
Please number your house so we can find you!

We're always looking for a few good men and women.

The Andover Volunteer Fire Department is looking for members to serve as Firefighters, EMTs, and/or Fire Police. If you are 16 years of age or older, responsible, willing to learn, and hard working, then we need you. Firefighting or EMS experience is not required. We will provide training.
View and print our application in PDF format.

Or, visit us at the firehouse on Wednesday @ 7:30 p.m., drill night. Talk to the members and watch us drill.
